Medals, Awards & Achievements

Throughout military history, medals and awards were given to serviceman as recognition for chivalry in combat. Some medals were awarded for excellence in combat, whereas some were awarded for participation rather than exceptional service. The German Iron Cross was one such medal. With almost 2 million recipients during the war, it was awarded for participation and became the most widely issued medal in history. Regardless, all medals served to recognize the serviceman for their contribution to their nation and to boost morale.

There were many grades of awards, and some could only be earned after having received the lower grade. For example, the German Knight's Cross came in many grades. One must have earned the Knight's Cross first, before being able to qualify for a Knight's Cross with Swords. Sometimes for truly exceptional service, a serviceman might receive both medals at once, but he still had to be presented with the lower grade first during the award ceremony.

Different branches of the military also presented different badges. A German tank crew may receive the Panzer badge, whereas an airman may receive the Luftwaffe badge.

World of tanks adds depth through the addition of Medals and Achievements. You earn these rewards as you play the game, and as with history, some are awarded for outstanding performance in combat, and others for participation.

To view your medals and achievements. Go to your garage and click on "Statistics". Your earned medals and achievements are shown on the top row, and you may scroll to the right if there isn't enough room. You will notice they are categorized into four groups. You can also view medals earned on a particular vehicle and crew. Just click on your vehicle and it shows you all achievements on that vehicle. The same applies with a tank crew. If you fire a crew, and hire another one, he'll lose the award. But if you sell a tank, and later buy it back, the award will still be shown for that tank type. Medals and Achievements earned however have no effect on game performance, and merely serves to show how cool you are in playing World of Tanks.

There are four types of Medals and Achievements in World of Tanks :-

  • Battle Hero. Awarded for excellence in battle. The most coveted one is the Top Gun.
  • Epic Achievements. Also awarded for exceptional performance in a single battle.
  • Special Achievements - Titles of Honor. Awarded for various achievements across several battles, and also for certain unique achievements in a single battle.
  • Step Achievements. Awarded for recognition of participation, rather than excellence. This mainly shows your career growth as a player.
